Hold On A Second
September 13, 2010The Skins were winning 13 – 7.
They took the lead and kept it for 4 quarters. But there opponent still had life. Of course when you’re playing a team like the Dallas Cowboys there is no such thing as an easy win. In fact it was now 3rd and 10 from the 13. 3 seconds left on the clock – time for one last play.
No! 3 seconds left on the clock – time for one last defensive stand!
The ball leaves Andre Gurode’s hands and hits Romo’s. Like a bolt of lightning Orakpo is there, the sack is milliseconds away from ending the game. Somehow Romo twists, turns and slips away, he’s free, big problem – because now Roy Williams is wide open in the bottom corner of the end zone. Williams is already 8 feet taller than the skins corners, which makes what happens next unimpressive. Romo fires the ball as Williams makes an effortless catch as time expires.
Hearts, Hopes, Dreams all break at once.
And then like a yellow angel the flag floated onto the field. Everything stops instantly, 90,000 people go silent…
“Holding, Offense #71!”
90,000 people erupt in excitement.
Game Over. Victory #1… 15 to go.
